How to build a narrative brand platform in Morocco

Before any campaign, a brand needs a narrative platform: an insight, a tension, a promise and proof. Here is how we build one in Casablanca.

· Written by Yassine Mejbar, founder of Simple8

We have read a lot of brand books in Casablanca. Most are beautiful and unusable. The pattern repeats: a film, a launch, a social calendar, all briefed before anyone in the room agreed on what the brand actually stands for. You end up with good assets that never add up to a brand.

What a narrative platform is

A narrative platform is the short, written source of truth every creative decision comes back to. It is not a mood board and not a slogan. It is a structured argument about who you serve, what tension you resolve, and why anyone should believe you.

The four blocks

  • Insight: a human truth about your audience that is specific to the Moroccan context, not a global cliché
  • Tension: the conflict your category creates and nobody names out loud
  • Promise: the single thing your brand commits to, expressed in your own language
  • Proof: products, experiences, people and results that make the promise credible

How we build it

We start with listening: customer conversations, sales objections, social comments, category audit. Then we write competing narrative territories rather than one safe direction, and we pressure-test each against real touchpoints, a product page, a store window, a 15-second video, a recruitment post.

If the story doesn't survive a 15-second video, it isn't a platform. It's a paragraph.

Signs your brand needs one

  • Every campaign looks like it came from a different brand
  • Your teams describe the company differently in every meeting
  • Creative reviews turn into taste debates with no criteria
  • Your content performs, but nobody remembers who published it

Written properly, a platform makes creative work faster and reviews shorter. It is usually the first thing we do, and the one document we ask clients to reread before every review.
